Marché Ferdous’s Muslim-owned restaurant in Montreal, gives away free meals to those who can’t afford to pay, no questions asked. A small sign in English and French on the door says, “People with no money welcome to eat free.” Yahya Hashemi, one of the restaurant’s co-owners, explains that helping the poor is part of his Muslim faith, and that he wants to give something back to Canada, which he feels has given him so much. The owners plan to continue the project indefinitely.
