Muslim-Christian dialogue is really just conversation that flows from a desire for Muslim-Christian understanding. In a healthy relationship, each friend is as intent on listening as on speaking. Good Muslim-Christian dialogue requires listening throughout because we speak effectively only if we’re sensitive to the concerns of our partners in dialogue. And sensitivity comes only by careful listening. For a fine example of Christian participation in dialogue with Muslims, read the talk on “The Role of Faith in Our Culture,” given by Rev. Tim Kuepfer (currently senior minister at Vancouver’s First Baptist Church) at a Muslim event in Richmond, BC. Kuepfer’s talk displays great sensitivity to Muslim concerns and that is precisely what makes Muslim-Christian dialogue good.
